恭喜發財!

Gung1 hei2 faat3 coi4! Happy Chinese New Year! :)

Chinese New Year Eve was on 9th February and on 10th began the year of snake (my year as I mentioned before). We also have holiday 9th-17th February, which means no classes and thus many international students are currently travelling. I decided to stay in HK and and so did a couple of other students.

I took many pictures and videos and it took some time to sort them out. And it takes forever to upload a video to YouTube... So, I'll divide the new year things into separate posts per each day as this one post would become too long otherwise.

On Friday 8th we went to the traditional flower market, which is open until New Year's Eve. The market was held in Victoria Park in Causeway Bay and was the biggest in Hong Kong. There are also apparently smaller ones around the city. We went there in the evening 8pm-9:30pm and it was packed with people! I had my better camera with me, but at some points it was just impossible to try to take pictures with it.

The alleys we walked were always one-way ones and I understand why. Some people still tried to go against the current... Well, good luck with that! Some of the alleys sold flowers like you would guess by the name of the market, but in some people (and students it seemed) were selling different kinds of plush-toys and so on.

Not that many people on the entrance.

Queen Victoria.
These flower apparently boost your relationships if you are single.

Mandarins

Orchids

Plush-toy part.
Frozen strawberries. The white thing is not ice but something sweet, eatable paper-like thing.

You could just waddle like a penguin and move where the mass of people was going.
